Madge Evers: I use the spores of mushrooms to create abstract works on paper that explore adaptation and memory and reference photosynthesis and mycorrhiza. I began making mushroom spore print art five years ago and my work has evolved to include foraged mushrooms and plants as well as the cyanotype process. Since 2016, my work has been shown at galleries in New England and New York, including the International Print Center, the Vermont Center for Photography, and the Fitchburg Art Museum. I live in western Massachusetts and in June, I stepped away from 25 years as a teacher to work full-time as an artist.
