Community Music School of Springfield offers music instruction at all levels in a wide variety of genres and instruments. Our programs include private lessons, ensembles such as Youth Wind Ensemble of Springfield, Children’s Chorus of Springfield, and String City Orchestra, Prelude Preschool of the Arts, Early Childhood Music, Creative Aging, Adaptive Music Program (AMP) for autistic and differently abled children, and Sonido Musica partnerships with area schools. CMSS is housed in a 1930s art deco bank building on State Street and is home to Robyn Newhouse Hall, a beautiful performance and event space that is available for rent. CMSS employs 55 teaching artists and serves 2,000 students per year throughout our many programs.
At Commencement, after receiving their diplomas, graduates pass under a banner with the University’s motto, Carpe Diem. Seize the Day. Our students know better: they seize this day…they seize this moment. We have done our job.
