What's Going on in the Cultural District?
Art Stop(s) is coming back!
Remember that time that we threw a party on Main Street in Springfield, celebrating the "popping-up" of three new galleries? We're doing it again!
Art Stop(s) comes back to SilverBrick Lofts, New England Public Radio, and 1550 Main Street on April 6 from 4:30-6 PM. We'll have new artists in the galleries, along with music, snacks, and maybe a few other surprises.
Before celebrating, we need your talent and art! Apply to show your visual art in the show, with a paid stipend of course, or get in touch so you can show off your busking or street music skills between the locations.
So, What Do You Do?
The Springfield Central Cultural District is a growing initiative to bring arts and culture to Downtown Springfield!
Our mission is to bring more vitality to the city by highlighting its outstanding cultural offerings and adding new creative opportunities for artists and the greater community. We aim to make arts and culture in Springfield more accessible, while creating connections between artists, cultural landmarks, and visitors!

Utility Box Mural Program
Old First Church Organ Concert
The SCCD presented a free organ concert in historic Old First Church in November 2016. More concerts coming soon!
The purpose of this program was to both show how beautiful and versatile the space is, as well as provide income to local artists through this program. We weren't just putting on an event – we were showing the potential in this historic building and hoping to encourage future activity in not just Old First Church, but throughout unexpected spaces in the Cultural District.
Over 26 colorful pieces of art can be found on unexpected canvases throughout the District - utility boxes!
The purpose of this project was two-fold: first, to beautify the streets and create unique and interesting pedestrian sights; second, to provide economic opportunity to local artists who are trying to make a living creating art in Springfield. We see this project in its final step as a huge, free outdoor gallery that is accessible to anyone, regardless of social or income status.
The success of the Springfield Central Cultural District is in large part due to our spectacular members - they make it possible to spread our mission, vision, and programs!
